Golden Village to close Plaza Singapura cinema after 28 years
Golden Village Multiplex will shut its Plaza Singapura outlet on 16 August 2026 after 28 years, as the Orchard Road mall prepares for a major S$160 million revamp by CapitaLand.

Golden Village Multiplex will shutter its cinema at Plaza Singapura on 16 August 2026, ending a 28-year run at one of Orchard Road's most recognisable malls.
The multiplex operator confirmed the closure on 1 July, citing a major redevelopment of the mall by its landlord, CapitaLand. Plaza Singapura has announced a S$160 million revamp intended to extend a park-inspired experience indoors.
The cinema first opened its doors at the Orchard Road mall in 1998. Six of its halls will hold their final screenings on 2 August, while the remaining halls will continue operating until the venue's last day on 16 August.
Straits Times quoted Chief Executive of Golden Village, Clara Cheo, expressing gratitude to patrons who had supported the outlet over nearly three decades.
"The cinema has been home to countless shared experiences and we thank our patrons, partners, staff, and our landlord, Plaza Singapura and CapitaLand, for being part of this remarkable journey and for their support over the years," Cheo said.
